Hand Therapy: A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) requires thousands of hours of training and at least 5 years of clinical experience. They must also pass an examination administered by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission. These professionals not only work with hands, but also treat other upper limb conditions.

Acupuncture: Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine, sterilized needles in specific points on the body. It is used for pain relief, swelling resolution and improving mobility.

Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation: Gunn IMS is a “westernized” form of acupuncture used by physiotherapists to stimulate trigger points in tight, hypertonic muscles. “Dry needling” creates a strong reflex to help restore normal muscle tone, stimulate healing and reduce pain. Manual/Manipulative Therapy: Manual therapy includes a wide variety of techniques to regain range of motion in a stiff joint, whether it is a peripheral joint or in the spine. All of our physiotherapists have extensive post-graduate manual therapy skills.

Soft Tissue Techniques: Physiotherapists use a wide range of techniques to decrease pain, improve muscle extensibility and reduce swelling. Active tissue massage techniques can be helpful for resolving chronic conditions such as tendonitis, shin splints and plantar fasciitis.

Graston Technique: Those trained in the Graston Technique treat soft tissue injuries using specialized stainless steel instruments. With these instruments, a clinician can decrease inflammation and reduce scar tissue, facilitating a quicker recovery from injury.

Therapeutic Exercise: Exercise is critical to the improvement of flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination and balance. Physiotherapists are exercise experts and provide individualized exercise programs to restore optimum function. Our physiotherapists have experience in Pilates, yoga and chi-ball rehabilitation. The Edge Sport Physical Therapy Inc is located inside the World Health Sport Club in Edgemont which has extensive cardiovascular and resistance training equipment.

Modalities: Physiotherapists use a wide variety of therapeutic “machines” to reduce pain and swelling. These modalities can also stimulate soft tissue healing and improve muscle activation.

Custom Orthotics: Orthotics are designed to support the foot in a neutral position to improve function and maximize performance. They are not only beneficial in treating problems of the feet but can also improve the alignment of the knees, hips and back. Orthotic fitting includes a gait analysis, examination of the foot and leg biomechanics and evaluation of symptoms. A mould is taken of the foot with the ankle and arch in neutral. The orthotics are manufactured locally using the most up-to-date materials. Custom orthotics are covered by most insurance companies with a physician’s prescription or under your wellness program at work.
